Rigging/Technical ARTIST

Currently unannounced narrative indie studio is looking for a Rigging/Technical Artist to create Rigs and provide Technical Support for our upcoming debut title. Women, Queer and BIPOC candidates are especially encouraged to apply. This role is remote and provides flexible work hours. Project communication is online, including calls/screen share. Compensation commensurate on skills and relevant experience.
Role:
The individual we’re looking for will be able to help take ownership of Rigs and Technical Support for an indie narrative project currently in pre-production.
Create rigs for characters, props, and environmental assets.
Create expressive character face rigs for animator use.
Understand rig needs for stylized posing and animation use.
Provide broad technical support to the art team, including but not limited to: shaders, materials, game engine, tools development, repository needs, optimization, lighting.
Be able to interact with artists to assess upcoming tool needs, creating and adapting in-engine or software based tools to fit the ask.
Take ownership of implementing new tools/content/processes and educating team members on best use.
Continually check back to ensure tools and rigs are being used, maintained, and future facing as intended, in a way that best meets team needs as well as engine versioning/integration.

We don’t expect or require a set number of years’ experience or shipped titles for this role. If candidates feel they can perform the listed abilities and can demonstrate the following qualifications, we will consider your application.
Maya/3DS Max, Unreal, C++, Blueprints, Visual Studio, Javascript, Python
Create all character rigs, face animation rigs, set up blend shapes in-engine
Work in tandem with a character artist and/or animator to ensure needs and functionality
Build rigs in a way that establishes a visual language style for character animations, and allows conveyance of individual personalities per character.
Ability to work within a narrative-driven environment, with facial animation as a core component.
Creates code that is clean, manageable, and flexible for edits and adapting to future use cases.
Collaborate with the Creative Director, Art Director, and team as applicable throughout the process.
Ability to meet key milestone deadlines.
Implement feedback from the Art Director in a timely manner for deliverables.
Work with game designers/engineers to ensure technical needs are being addressed and met as expected in the engine.
Problem-solving capabilities and strong technical understanding.
Communication, independent time-management and organizational skills.
Ability to work remotely and communicate via calls/screen share video conference.
Task driven, self-motivated, proactive.
